Hello, again! I’m John from Twisby Records, back with a deep dive into the groundbreaking moments of NAMM 2024. This year’s show was a cacophony of innovation, with some displays outshining others in their sheer audacity and a couple who are changing the “game” of audio engineering, both in live and in studio settings. We’re here to recap who we thought the biggest winners were from this show. From the one-man rave that challenged conventions to the technological advancements that promise to revolutionize live sound and recording studios, let’s explore the winners that made NAMM 2024 unforgettable.
For those who want to experience the excitement firsthand, check out our video recap here.
#8: SUAT
SUAT’s presence at NAMM 2024 was an unexpected twist, turning heads and challenging the norms of music presentation. His one-man rave, powered by a mobile DJ setup, was not just a performance; it was a statement on the power of music to unite and the potential of mobility in live performances. This act of defiance against traditional setups showcased the evolving landscape of live music, where the boundaries of where and how performances can occur are constantly being redrawn.
SUAT’s approach garnered attention beyond the confines of NAMM, reaching a global audience through his live stream. This not only demonstrated the potential reach of such performances but also highlighted the importance of adaptability and creativity in the digital age. His ability to engage and entertain, turning passersby into an impromptu audience, underscores the universal language of music and its power to bring joy in the most unexpected places.
Now originally when we saw this we wanted to put this in the losers column, as a dude rocking Pit Viper glasses looking like he’s an extra at a roller rink in a film set in the 1980’s walking around with a mobile dj rig, is ….. well, as ridiculous as it sounds. But we actually found ourselves enjoying it, and even watched it in it’s entirety. and to AlphaTheta you can’t buy marketing better than that.
#7 PK Sound: Revolutionizing Live Audio with the T8 Robotic Line Array
PK Sound unveiled the T8 Robotic Line Array, marking a significant advancement in live sound reinforcement. This isn’t just another line array system; it’s a glimpse into the future of sound engineering. The T8’s robotic capabilities allow for precision tuning and adjustments, promising to deliver unparalleled sound quality and coverage. This technology represents a shift towards more efficient, accurate, and adaptable live sound setups, catering to the acoustical challenges of diverse venues.
Here at Twisby Records, we are former Touring System Techs with impressive resumes, and with that comes alot of friends who are the same at the highest levels. This was definitely the most talked about presentation, both leading into, and after Namm by our peers. While it’s been joked about in our industry for decades, the mad lads at PK Sound finally made it happen. Now we don’t know alot about the presentation, because videos still haven’t popped up from it as of me writing this, but this is one of the biggest shifts in the live industry, since the invention of line arrays. Hopefully all of you system techs can now get an extra hour or 2 of sleep before load in, now that you can adjust angles and coverage in the room AFTER flying the arrays.
The introduction of robotics in line array systems by PK Sound could revolutionize the way sound engineers approach live setups. Automation in speaker positioning and angle adjustments can lead to a more optimized sound field, reducing setup times and allowing for real-time acoustic adjustments during events. This innovation not only has the potential to improve the audience’s experience but also to alleviate the physical strain on sound technicians, possibly heralding a new era where technology and human expertise blend seamlessly for the perfect auditory experience.
#6 API
API’s position in the audio world has been unassailable, thanks to their relentless innovation and commitment to quality. At NAMM 2024, they reinforced their dominance in the modular audio space with the anniversary editions of their 500 series modules. The 500 series format, pioneered by API, has democratized high-quality audio processing, making it accessible to studios of all sizes and budgets. API’s continuous innovation ensures that the 500 series ecosystem remains vibrant and expansive. With each passing year, more manufacturers and developers are drawn to this format, enriching the market with a wide array of options. This not only benefits the end users but also drives competition and innovation within the industry, ensuring that the 500 series remains at the cutting edge of audio technology. Even some of the other brands on this list released new 500 series modules themselves. The lunchbox still reigns as the king!

#3 Synth Lovers as a whole (Korg)
The synth community was treated to a spectacle at NAMM 2024, with Korg leading the charge. Their expansive and innovative booth was a haven for synth enthusiasts, showcasing the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of sound synthesis and design. This presentation wasn’t just about displaying new products; it was a declaration of Korg’s dedication to the art and science of synthesis, ensuring that the synth community remains vibrant and forward-thinking.
The impact of Korg’s showing at NAMM 2024 extends beyond the event itself, signaling a renaissance in the world of synthesis. With advancements in technology and a growing community of passionate creators, the possibilities for sound design and musical exploration are limitless. Korg’s dedication to innovation serves as a catalyst for the entire industry, inspiring both established brands and newcomers to explore uncharted sonic territories.

#1 Solid State Logic (SSL): 360 App
Solid State Logic (SSL) stole the show with their announcement of an update to the 360 app, enabling third-party plugin mapping to the UC1 controller. This development is a significant leap forward, bridging the gap between SSL’s hardware excellence and the vast world of digital audio plugins. By listening to their user base and integrating this highly requested feature, SSL has not only enhanced the workflow of countless producers and engineers but also reaffirmed their status as industry leaders.
The ability to map third-party plugins to the UC1 controller represents a paradigm shift in digital mixing. This update promises to streamline the creative process, allowing for more intuitive and tactile interaction with software plugins. It’s a move that could inspire other manufacturers to follow suit, potentially leading to a new standard in hardware-software integration. SSL’s commitment to innovation and user experience continues to set them apart, ensuring their place at the helm of the audio technology industry.
Now if I could recommend a few things to improve the UC1 in the next iteration, give us scribble strips so we can see the parameters on the gear itself without looking at the screen. AND ….. maybe give us the option for different looks….. i mean, I’d rock a Harrison Themed UC2 and UF8/UF1 … Just Saying.
As we wrap up our journey through NAMM 2024’s most impactful innovations, it’s clear that this year was a testament to the music industry’s relentless pursuit of excellence. From SUAT’s viral one-man rave to SSL’s groundbreaking update, each winner represents a unique facet of the evolving musical landscape.
